We ranch in Central Texas. We put our gear to the test chasing cattle horseback in mesquite and cedar thickets. There are a lot of waxed or oiled garments out there. None even come close to the waxed garments that are produced by Schaefer Ranchwear. This vest is one of my favorite waxed garments. I also have the RangeWaxed Drifters and the RangeWaxed Mesquite Jacket. This vest just tops off the series. BTW, no oily smell or messy oily feel to these waxed garments. Schaefer Ranchwear has mastered this type of treatment to cotton. Perfect fit, not snug, not loose and with plenty of pockets to carry whatever you need. (Posted on 5/17/12)

This vest wears like iron. Form fits to your body. Blocks wind and rain. Pockets incredible sized right. Buttons secure excellent. Looks better with age. Made in USA

I used to wear a leather vest as a work and riding garment, but never found one that had any pockets worth a darn! Like the Mesquite jacket this vest has REAL pockets! I bought the waxed one for the ease of cleaning and ruggedness against dusting here in Northern New Mexico. These things are easy to clean even with shedding horses! Just rinse them off with water. I have used mine for over 2 years and it is a true multiseason garment. I add a wool shirt if the weather turns cool and down to a Henley if warm. Going to ask “Santa” for an unwaxed one for real warm weather and give it a workout this year. The price is a little steep, but the lasting and use makes the garment well worth it.
