Schaefer Outfitter Sizing Specifications

Schaefer Outfitter is cut generously to accommodate an active western lifestyle.  Our outerwear is designed to wear layers underneath and features a riding sleeve.  This means when you are actively riding, there is enough sleeve length built into the garment so that your wrist and forearm are not exposed to the elements.  This same approach is also given to shirt sleeve and shirt tail length.  Our vests are a little more fitted to provide a high performance insulative layer or stand-alone piece.  In order to determine your size, follow the charts below.

How To Measure

Chest/Bust – Wrap a tape measure evenly around the fullest part under your arms or measure your favorite coat.  Lay your coat completely zipped/snapped up, then spread and flatten out.  Measure across the front of the coat 1” below the armhole seam.  This measurement will then need to be doubled.  For example a measurement of 22” is actually a 44” chest of your favorite coat.

Waist – Wrap tape around your natural waistline, or where you actually wear your pants.

Seat/Hip – Standing with your feet together, measure around the fullest part of your hip (approx. 7-8” below the waist).  Make sure your tape is level.

Inseam – Best taken from your favorite pair of pants, with your target length.  Measure along the pant inseam from the crotch seam to the bottom hem.

Sleeve Length – From the center back of your neck with your arm slightly bent, follow the tape down to the outside of your wrist bone or measure your favorite coat or shirt.  Lay your favorite shirt or coat  (buttoned/zipped up) face down on a flat surface.  Make sure garment is completely flattened out.  Measure from the center back point where the collar stand joins the back yoke to the end of the cuff.

Neck Circumference – Wrap tape around the base of your neck allowing room for comfort or measure  the collar of your favorite shirt.  Make sure the collar  is completely flattened/straightened out prior to measuring.

Gloves – Measure around the knuckles with hand flat, thumb excluded, for normal size.  Those at the lower end of a size who want a closer fit, order one size smaller.  Those at the upper end of a size who want a looser fit, order one size larger.

Your Hat Size and Selection

Measure the distance around your head at the position where your hat normally rests, using a soft tape measure. This is usually done above the ears and across the forehead. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEASUREMENT YOURSELF. Be seated to view yourself in a mirror while someone else measures your head. Have them pull the tape tightly around your head, then loosely, tightly and loosely again, until you can determine from the comfort of the tape how you would like your hat to fit. Your head may be between sizes. Measurement can be taken in increments of 1/16" . We will make your hat to the exact measurement.

You can check your head size by comparing your measurement to the corresponding hat size on the chart below. Again, you may be between hat sizes. We will make your hat to the exact measurement. Schaefer will gladly make minor size adjustments, but if your measurement is off more than ¼" there will be a resize charge of $50.00. Call us if you need help at 800-426-2074.
